Academic Excellence
To attain high academic standards and outstanding results from our pupils, we employ a highly trained staff. Armed with the relevant academic, teaching, professional and spiritual qualifications, we encourage our staff along their continued development. This ensures that our teaching, boarding and even, extracurricular staff work closely with each other so that students benefit from their combined knowledge and skills. With the determination to perform the very best in their care for your ward, our staff are truly dedicated and hardworking.
The lessons at SGOS are delivered with a variety of teaching styles and techniques,
as teachers understand the varying needs and learning approach of our pupils. Our teachers and students work in partnership with an emphasis on love of learning, having a good time and determined approach to gaining qualifications, skills and success even beyond the classroom. The combination of traditional classroom teaching and extra-curricular activities allow students to develop their love of a subject. This is achieved by arranging practical activities, residential trips and other charitable endeavors, which promotes understanding and application of the learnt skills in real life as well as their sense of values.
Curriculum
Standard Group of Schools adopts a forward-looking and thought-provoking approach to the standardized curriculum (based on British and Nigerian influences) advised nationwide. This inspires learners to be dynamic and quick-witted while the curriculum itself maintains consistency with the needs of learners, both Nigerian and abroad.
We are committed to delivering a broad education that is ambitious, varies and stimulating. By offering academic excellence with a suitable range of extracurricular and enriching opportunities all in an open, caring and supportive environment, we foster each student to explore their potential and thrive. We encourage teachers to make use of innovative teaching and learning methods to stimulate higher order thinking and to even go beyond the national curriculum in order to keep the students focused and motivated.
At SGOS, we aim to develop the whole person. We achieve this by encouraging students to explore their interests, thus promoting curiosity of mind, tempered by responsibility of spirit but spurred by a love for learning. In promoting the culture of respect, SGOS students are encouraged to be guided by self- discipline, motivation and a unified purpose with a proper thirst for learning.
The institution’s ideals and breadth of provision are reflected in our curriculum at each key level. By grouping every three academic years as a developmental milestone, we effectively ensure that our students are adequately prepared for the world at large at the end of their programme with us.
PRIMARY 1 – 3
This foundational level explores the formal establishment of a learning structure for children. String emphasis is placed on gradual progressive development of literacy, quantitative and general cognitive skills.
PRIMARY 4 – 6
At this level, the focus shifts to actively prepare students for life in secondary school. The range of subjects handled increases while emphasis is placed on examination preparedness. You can expect increased independence from students as they are challenged to take more proactive roles in the achievement of their academic goals.
JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL 1 – 3
At this stage, we want our students to pursue a wide variety of academic and extracurricular interests to the full. We take extra care to nurture these pre-adolescents into robust and resilient individuals: students who are willing to make responsible yet determined decisions without fear of failure. Students are required to the following foundational courses, as listed below, with the exception of JSS 3 who will have the option to select objectives in addition to the core subjects:
English | Mathematics | Physics | Chemistry | Geography | History | Social Studies | Civic Education
| Biology | Technology | ICT French | Yoruba | Igbo | Drama | Home Economics | Music | Physical & Health | Education | Business Studies | Creative Arts | Christian Religious Studies
Entering into the final years of childhood development, this level observes a key psychological progression in students as much as the physical ones. To fully cater and guide this development for better outcomes, our students are expected to study the eight subjects – with the addition of 3 electives – that they chose towards the national WASSCE examinations at the end of SSS 3. Typically, students are also required to make a well guided choice between three different subject majors: Science, Social Science and Arts.

SOCIAL SCIENCE
